The 10 benefits of Hypnobirthing…
…that no one tells you about
Hypnobirthing is a method of natural childbirth that involves using self-hypnosis, visualisation, and deep breathing to help women reduce the physical and emotional stress of labour and delivery. In essence, it’s deep relaxation.
The technique was first developed in the 1950s and has been gaining popularity in recent years as a way to promote a more relaxed and comfortable birth experience.
the mother
Interestingly, the benefits of hypnobirthing are not limited to the labour and delivery process. Women who practice hypnobirthing report several positive effects in the postnatal period too.
This goes to show that Hypnobirthing is not just a form of Birth Preparation, but preparation for parenthood too. Research indicates that new mothers experience numerous benefits, including:
1 Reduced stress and anxiety: Hypnobirthing helps women to relax deeply and focus on positive thoughts, leading to a more relaxed and comfortable birth experience.
2 Quicker recovery: Women who practice hypnobirthing may experience a quicker physical recovery after birth, as well as a quicker return to normal activities.
3 Improved sleep: By teaching women to relax deeply and focus on positive thoughts, hypnobirthing can lead to better sleep patterns and a more restful postpartum period.
4 Better bonding: Women who have a more positive birth experience are more likely to feel confident and empowered as new mothers, which can lead to a stronger bond with their baby.
the baby
The benefits of hypnobirthing are not limited to the mother. Babies born through hypnobirthing have been shown to have several positive outcomes, making the list of benefits even longer:
1 Fewer medical interventions: Women who practice hypnobirthing are less likely to require medical interventions such as cesarean sections or forceps deliveries.
2 Better APGAR scores: Babies born through hypnobirthing have been shown to have higher APGAR scores, indicating they are healthier and more robust at birth.
3 Calmer demeanor: Babies born through hypnobirthing are often calmer and more content, due to the relaxed environment in which they are born.
the child and mother relationship
In addition to the benefits for both the mother and the baby, hypnobirthing can also have a positive impact on the relationship between the child and the mother.
1 Stronger bond: By helping women feel confident and empowered as new mothers, hypnobirthing can lead to a stronger bond between the mother and her baby.
2 Positive start to parenting: Women who have a more positive birth experience are more likely to have a positive outlook on parenting, leading to a more harmonious and fulfilling relationship with their child.
3 Better communication: By teaching women deep breathing and visualization techniques, hypnobirthing can help women communicate more effectively with their baby, fostering a strong connection from the very start.
So when people embark on a Hypnobirthing course to prepare for the birth of their baby, they’re actually getting a lot more than they bargained for.
Hypnobirthing is a way of life. I’ve seen first-hand how it has helped mothers overcome fear and anxieties, helped couples overcome previous trauma, I even had one father who said for him, it was therapy.
Hypnobirthing offers numerous benefits for all – the birther, partner and the baby, as well as the mother/baby relationship.
By incorporating these techniques into the birth process, couples can experience a more relaxed and positive birth experience, leading to a stronger bond and more harmonious relationship with their child.
